One of Dad’s last meals was at The Pillars Hospice facility. His recent preference for warm and hot food had switched to cold food and drinks. When we told him he could have anything he wanted to eat, we suggested and he gladly agreed to a chocolate shake. The amazing staff made him a beautiful shake worthy of a Food magazine photo shoot. Dad hadn’t eaten much over the past few weeks, but he finished ALL of this delicious treat for ‘breakfast.’
This reminded me of the time that my dad happily and enthusiastically served a five-year-old Makaio a plate full of cotton candy for dinner one evening at the cabin. When I jokingly questioned him about his nutritional decision for Makaio’s ’dinner,’ he lovingly said in his grandfatherly defense: “That is what he wanted. It isn’t hurting anything or anyone and it makes him happy.”
I think this perfectly illustrates another of Dad’s life lessons:
As long as it isn’t hurting anything or anyone, be sure to do what makes you happy. 💜
